Irish indigenous medicine has a long history and we can trace it from the legends, through the legal tracts, the medical manuscripts, and the National Folklore Collection to the present day.
For at least a thousand years Irish Brehon law required universal health care for all its citizens and detailed requirements for providing water, cleanliness and fresh air.
The English colonist determined these laws to be “old, lewd and unreasonable” and were outlawed in the mid 17th century.

The Irish healing tradition is of considerable value in clinical practice as it resonates with Irish race memory and cultural beliefs.
